November 19, 2007

The writer/director Nicholas Kinsey has been invited to present his feature film Women Without Wings starring Katya Gardner, Micheline Lanctôt, Besa Imani, Gjovalin Gjoni, and Alfred Trebicka at the UP Skena Film Festival in Prishtina, Kosovo this week (Nov. 22-24). The movie won a silver Remi award at the Houston Worldfest 2003 and was selected for numerous festivals including Montreal, Mannheim-Heidelberg, Victoria Independent Film Festival, Edmonton International Film Festival, Tiburon International Film Festival, Bergamo Film Meeting in Italy, Newport Beach Film Festival in California, the Atlantic Film Festival and the Festival of India in New Delhi. The movie will be screened several times during the festival and then open in a new cinema in January 2008. In addition to promoting Women Without Wings, Kinsey will be in Prishtina to meet several Albanian-speaking actresses for a lead role in his new TV drama series Cottage in America about a family of Albanian immigrants living in Canada, which he hopes to shoot next summer in Quebec and New Brunswick. He will also be meeting with the national broadcaster RTK in the Kosovo capital. "This is a very tense time to go to Kosovo where national elections have just elected a new government dedicated to liberating Kosovo from Serbia,", says Kinsey.

Patrizio Sanzari is the "Backup Man,

a new comic face in Montreal, now on the big screen!

(October 24, 2007)

After a successful launch in Atlantic Canada, the feature comedy The Backup Man is moving west and will open on November 2 for a one week engagement at the Guzzo Cinema (Mega-Plex Spheretech 14 in Ville St-Laurent (3500 Côte Vertu, north of Metropolitain Blvd) in Montreal. A Cinegraphe/News-Cast.Com feature starring Isabelle Cyr (Karmina, Chambres en ville, Rumeurs), Dennis Cutts (Lakefront), Patrizio Sanzari, and Constantine Kourtidis directed by Doug Sutherland. This is the story of two small town cops, a woman on the run and a big time hit man. The movie was shot in Quebec and New Brunswick in October 2005.

The "backup man" is played by Patrizio Sanzari, a natural comic who comes from an Italian family in Montreal, but has been working in Vancouver for over a year.

Patrizio’s expressive features and on-camera spontaneity come from a solid background in theatre. He studied theatre at Concordia University. His film and TV credits include Rumours, P-Brane, Virginie, Hallowed Halls and Blue Line. He also worked at a standup comic (The Mic and I, Watch Mojo.com and has a good deal of theatre experience (Jujubes, Hamlet Machine, Marathon 33, etc.). Patrizio will be flying in from Vancouver to promote the picture in Montreal with local actors Isabelle Cyr, Constantine Kourtidis and Susan Corbett.

The movie is in its second week in Halifax, Moncton, St.John, and Edmundston where the audience reaction has exceeded all expectations. "We were blindsided by this one - we didn’t see it coming," says Nicholas Kinsey of Carlton Films, the Canadian distributor of the movie. "The dumb cop character (Renfield) played by comic actor Patrizio Sanzari of Montreal is a new Mr Bean and the public just love him. This little movie could go really big..."

"Patrizio is an amazing comic actor with very expressive eyes - a bit like Marty Feldman (Young Frankenstein) or Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean). He has a natural gift for comedy, and came up with some great comic touches of his own on set," says the director Doug Sutherland. "He and Dennis Cutts, who plays Renfield's long suffering partner Murphy, have terrific chemistry together."

"It is great to discover new comedy talent in Montreal since comedy has always been a great force in the city. We cast the picture in Toronto, at the Montreal School of Performing Arts in Montreal and in Atlantic Canada, and were amazed by the talent base in Montreal," says Kinsey.
